Year 6 conduct investigations for their topics on Electricity and Light. They have learned about independent, dependent and controlled variables. Year 6 drew pie charts using a compass to record the percentage number of colours in a packet of skittles. They enjoyed an apple pie after some pi calculating As part of our R.S.E programme, Year 6 had the opportunity to explore ‘self- talk’. Children discussed the impact of negative and positive voices in the head and their consequences on our thoughts, feelings and actions. After some role-play scenarios, positive self- talk strategies were recorded through affirmation cards. Year 6 prayed for world peace. We filled our prayer garden with the sound of song which combined beautifully with the birdsong. Here, we were able to appreciate the peace and tranquillity we continue to enjoy while a war rages on near our lands. We took the time to appreciate our beautiful surroundings observing the signs of God and our blessings all around us. Personal intentions were made. Our mission – to pray more frequently in the days which lie ahead. Celebrating World Book Day with a story-telling workshop Year 6 enjoyed an incredible workshop learning about the essence of story-telling through drama. Pupils were able to develop associated key vocabulary: tableau, tautology, naturalism, stylised version, grotesque action and anthropomorphic. With the guide of our expert, not only did our children experience a fun-packed journey about self-expression and acting but they were offered some meaningful guide for living so that our children are the best they can be. The workshop enabled our children to have the confidence to ‘demonstrate their light’. Several tableaus were created: playing in the playground, shopping at the supermarket, arguing, eating at a restaurant. The lesson progressed to create scenes from Anansi, the trickster from the folktales of the Ashanti of West Africa, who is challenged with capturing four creatures and then presenting them to Nyan-Kopon, the sky god. What did Year 6 think… “I loved this drama experience. Adrian told us about the values he has in life, for example, always do your best, no matter what. I will remember this my whole life – it was phenomenal.” “This workshop helped grow my confidence by a mile.” “I really enjoyed having Mr Adrian teaching us. He taught me to not hide my light and be who we really are. I really hope he will come back again.” “It was amazing, there was something for everyone. We all laughed so hard and welcomed the opportunity to just express ourselves and let go.” “I enjoyed this workshop because drama is not something I usually enjoy. I took every moment and turned it into a special memory. I would love to repeat this experience again.” “This was an outstanding experience. It has helped me build my self-confidence by giving us great compliments.” “The way this lesson was taught was fantastic because he joked, made us laugh but also made us listen carefully.” We have been learning about the importance of healthy eating and how the body transports nutrients. We planned a healthy plate to include all the food groups and really enjoyed eating our meal!
We enjoyed our woodwork - measuring and sawing to create mitre corners to create a professional finish for our William Morris prints.
The grand finale to our Victorian topic - We baked Queen Victoria's favourite cake (so it was rumoured!)
