Victorian toys
Using paper, wood and tape, Year 6 made a traditional toy called cup and ball. They had tremendous fun through making such a simple toy. “This toy made my class very excited and competitive! It certainly cheered up Victorian Day. A Christmas tradition was brought back to life. With cloves, cinnamon and rosemary, our classroom smelt truly of Christmas…Year 6 also achieved an eco-friendly way of decorating the home at Christmas time through using dried fruit.
Making frames
Year 6 used woodwork to make mitre corners and create a frame for their art work. They learned how to place wood into a jig to guide their sawing. “I can’t believe I made this frame with my hands. I learned so many new skills like sawing and I feel very proud of my work. As part of our Stones and Bones topic, for homework the children had to design and make made stone age artefacts using mostly recycled items. They made stone age shelters, stone age tools and stone age jewellery! Well done Year 3, you are talented craftspeople! Designing and creating our own webpage on the Victorians has taught us a number of important skills to do with layout, design, copyright and the functions in Google slides. We used key words like sediment, riverbed, erosion and palaeontologist to understand the fossilisation process. Having studied various fossils, we went on to create ‘our own fossils’ making marks onto clay. Year 6 used place value counters to demonstrate knowledge of the place value and to exchange the place value holder. Year 6 enjoyed a wonderful and submersive experience of South American culture, geography and history. Three parents gave exceptional presentations to Year 6 of their home countries: Brazil, Equador and Venezuela. They were offered food treats and artefacts to enhance their experiences and learning. Year 6 went on to explore the continent through a carousel of activities to include dance, street art, map work, research and culinary delights. So many new great thinkers from diverse backgrounds to learn from - a wonderful effort by all |
