This week in Nursery we have been learning all about Diwali, the Festival of Light. We have listened to the story of ‘Rama and Sita’, made Rangoli patterns and diva lamps from clay and decorated them with beautiful sequins and glitter. We hung lights everywhere in the classroom and explored with different sources of light. We also danced to traditional music and tasted naan bread. This week in Nursery we followed the children’s interests in fire engines. We have learnt the song ‘I am the firefighter’ and made a fantastic fire engine outside. We also learnt what a firefighter’s job is and then pretended to be firefighters, we saved the cat from the tree, put the pretend fire out and informed people how to stay safe. We have had a wonderful week in nursery. We have also been learning about Autumn and looked in our wild garden, for signs of Autumn and collected leaves and sticks. We had great fun investigating and exploring the leaves by throwing them in the air and stomping on them to hear the sounds they made. We also made a collage using natural materials. The children are very proud of their work and would like to share our displays with you. In religion we talked about the importance of the Easter story. We learnt that Jesus died on the cross on Good Friday and gave his life for the good of everyone, so that others could be forgiven for the things they do wrong. During the past few weeks in Nursery we have been learning all about farm animals. We matched the animals with their baby and learnt their names. We had lots of fun drawing, painting and making farm animals out of recycling materials. On Friday we visited Mudchute City farm where we had an amazing time. We saw llamas, sheep, lambs, pigs, piglets, chickens and ducks. We observed where the animals live and how they interact with natural environment. We fed the animals special food that the farmer gave us and we learnt that we shouldn’t give them our food because it will make them sick. On Thursday we learnt how to use a knife to spread butter on bread; we then used this to help us make sandwiches. We discussed how we can showcase these skills at home and help make our sandwiches to take on our trip to the farm. We also have been practising our fine motor skills. We peeled satsumas oranges, used the pincer grip to peg large pegs onto the peg board, cut pictures using scissors and used the small hole punchers to make holes in paper.
