The children took part in Godly play and listened to the story of the Prodigal Son and then discussed a time that they had to forgive someone as part of our topic: Sacrament of Reconciliation. In our English lessons, the children have been enjoying the unfolding of our story Leon and the place between. They used precise verbs and adjectives to describe a new scene in the story based on what has happened so far. The children made holes in boxes and used torches to find out whether they could see class room items inside a dark box to investigate whether they need light in order to see things and that dark is the absence of light. In our Art lessons, the children are learning about the British artist – William Turner. They explored some of his paintings and his use of light in his paintings to create a mood, happy, sad, calm or relaxed. They experimented with watercolours and created an effective background for their own paintings in the style of William Turner. The children listened carefully to the story of the Prodigal Son from the bible. They dramatized the story and helped each other with the feelings and dialogue between the different people in the story. We discussed what they thought the message was in the story.
To mark the start of Advent, the children wrote prayers which could make the Christmas holidays more peaceful. They then decorated their prayer candle with purple which is the liturgical colour for this season.
Year 3 and Year 4 enjoyed reliving some elements of the Stone Age this week when they participated in a Stone Age workshop. The children listened attentively and undertook Stone Age training with enthusiasm! They worked together as a large group and in smaller groups. Pupils from all classes wore odd socks to school on Monday to celebrate 'we are all different' as part of Anti-Bullying week.
The children worked in groups to work out the advantages and disadvantages of living close to a volcano. They listened well to each other and made some interesting points about the hazards or benefits of living close to a volcano. They presented their ideas to each other and recorded their findings in their books. |
