This has been one of our favourite weeks this half term. We have been inspired and fascinated learning about all the different scientists and mathematicians that exist in the world. We even want to become scientists and mathematicians when we are older, will you believe it? Year 3 have turned into marvellous mathematicians this week to try it out! We have found real life Maths around our school grounds. We have been collecting data of the different plants around our school. I wonder if you can recognise any of them! We have been in teams trying to locate them, name them and then estimate how many there are in a square metre. Obviously, Ms Rebelo and Ms Ana asked us to count how many plants the square metre had! We also know now that there are 100cm in 1 metre thanks to our metre stick. It has been so much fun. The sun is just so incredible and we know so much about this gigantic, natural source of light. It has been a rainy week but we have definitely been filled with brightness, warmth and happiness this week. We also created puppets in pairs of the characters that are in our Greek Myth called ‘Daedalus and Icarus’. We have been learning about light and shadow so we created a puppet show about what we have learnt using our special characters. We came up with prices for our theatre tickets and a train ticket so we could get give out tickets for our theatre. It was so much fun coming up with prices, and even learning about the times that we needed to leave in order to be on time for our show and our train! I hope you can see the variety of learning that we have done and how exciting this week has been for all of us through the pictures below. Our overarching theme this term is ‘Let it Shine’ and we are shining in all aspects in Year 3 – in our growth, in our learning and with Jesus. In science we are looking at light and shadows. In topic we are looking at the history of lighting and how it all started. This week, have created our very own history of lighting timeline. We have found some really interesting facts about lighting. We have looked at the Thomas Edison lamp, the Kerosene lamp and even the LED lamp. What do you know about lighting? Did you know that the sun is our biggest source of light? We are so excited about our learning this term.
