The last two weeks have been the busiest in Year 3! We have been writing some amazing book reviews for the Year 3 books we have been enjoying so much. We are so happy with our book corner. We have also been looking at the symbolic meaning of the advent wreathe. We know that we light a candle each week on the lead up to Jesus' birthday and each week we think about the purpose of the candles: peace, love, joy and hope. We have also been so busy pretending to write a diary as if we are grandma from George's Marvellous Medicine in English. We have thoroughly enjoyed studying this book in a lot of detail. In science, we have looked at the skeletons in animals and humans and we have even made our very own muscle. It was quite challenging but we followed the instructions really well. We love learning in Year 3!
Year 3 worked really hard during Road Safety Week! We even think that we should have road safety every week as it is so important to be safe out on the road, even when we are walking or cycling or on the bus, train or car... We thought about how we get to school and all the hazards that can come with being out on the road. It was helpful to be thinking of how we can be safe like using high-visibility gear, only crossing the road when the green man appears and what has helped us a lot this week was... ''stop, look, listen and think''! We even heard a song that we will have in our minds when crossing and being on the road. Stay safe everyone, from Year 3!
We have been really excited reading George's Marvellous Medicine by one of our favourite authors - Roald Dahl. Have you heard about him? He uses really exciting language such as alliteration, rhyme and even onomatopoeia. Do you know what they are? We know what they all are. We have written a character description for Grandma using some silly similes. We have even made some really gross, smelly and disgusting medicine recipes for our Grandma to take. We have used measurements, time connectives, imperative (bossy) verbs and even amazing adjectives to describe our ingredients. Little does Grandma know what we have been up to... Please don't tell her! We are so excited to be creating medicine shape poems that we look forward to share with you soon! Year 3 have worked so hard this week, Ms Rebelo and Ms Ana are definitely super proud!
Year 3 have been looking at E-safety this past term. We have looked at what it means to be kind and unkind online. We have also managed to have a very professional debate on what it means if and when things spread online. We mentioned that everything that is posted or shared online, stays online. We all have our own online footprint!
Does anyone know Giuseppe Arcimboldo? He is the artist that Year 3 are learning about this term. Can you guess what we are also learning about in science? Yes, that's right! Nutrition and how to eat and stay healthy! We have learnt what a collage is using our healthy fruits and vegetables in the style of creative Arcimboldo who made portraits out of these very healthy foods. We are so proud of our art gallery and our artists.
In Year 3, we have been learning about Advent and what it means to us. We are all extremely excited about Christmas: spending time with our family, having delicious turkey dinners and Christmas puddings! However, in Year 3 we are very aware that Christmas is not about the materialistic things and instead it is about preparing for the celebration of Jesus' birthday. We have also thought this week about the things we hope for before Christmas, like becoming closer to God and our families and friends. We are all very hopeful especially as we have lit our first candle in the advent wreath...
