The children worked with a partner to use an atlas to locate the 7 continents and 5 oceans. After they finished they used the atlas to locate and identify different countries that they have visited with their family. They also looked at the different flags for the different countries. They remembered how to use a contents page and an index page in a non – fiction book. The children described what forgiveness meant to them and wrote a prayer about forgiveness and healing. The children took part in Godly play and listened to the story of the Prodigal Son and then discussed a time that they had to forgive someone as part of our topic: Sacrament of Reconciliation. In our English lessons, the children have been enjoying the unfolding of our story Leon and the place between. They used precise verbs and adjectives to describe a new scene in the story based on what has happened so far. The children made holes in boxes and used torches to find out whether they could see class room items inside a dark box to investigate whether they need light in order to see things and that dark is the absence of light. In our Art lessons, the children are learning about the British artist – William Turner. They explored some of his paintings and his use of light in his paintings to create a mood, happy, sad, calm or relaxed. They experimented with watercolours and created an effective background for their own paintings in the style of William Turner. The children listened carefully to the story of the Prodigal Son from the bible. They dramatized the story and helped each other with the feelings and dialogue between the different people in the story. We discussed what they thought the message was in the story.
