Maths & Science week - Parent visit - Paediatric Lung doctor

14/6/2023

Year 3 were again fortunate to have another parent visit. This parent told the children all about her career as a Paediatric Lung Doctor. She explained how Maths and Science were used in her day to day work and how essential these subjects are to help children and young people improve their lung health. The children listened intently and asked a number of interesting questions.

Maths & Science week - Architect visit

14/6/2023

The children in key stage two were lucky to have a special visit from an architect. He shared his work and how Maths and Science were an important part of his work. He helped the children to think about the different designs of buildings that are all around us. The children listened carefully and asked a variety of interesting questions. They also answered his question to them:
If you were an architect, which building would you design?

Design Technology

13/6/2023

To compliment out Tudors topic, the children are in the process of making a cushion with an emblem of the Tudor Rose. They are developing their fine motor skills, patience and observation skills as they begin sewing the different colours to create their very own Tudor Rose e=patch for their cushion.

Maths & Science week - Parent visit – Recruitment

12/6/2023

A massive thank you to our first parent who came in and spoke to the children about her fascinating career. The children listened well and were engaged throughout and asked a fair few questions, as did I! Thank you for presenting your career in a manner that was easily accessible to the class.

Science

12/6/2023

To conclude our Forces topic, the children worked in small groups to plan and undertake a fair test. They were testing the air resistance of different shaped parachutes. They made predictions about whether they thought the shape of their parachute would change the speed at which the parachute fell to the ground. They adhered to the health and safety instructions and completed their investigation.

Stained glass window designs

15/5/2023

Using the stained-glass windows in church as inspiration, the children decorated an image linked to Pentecost. They carefully considered the colours that would be suitable and developed their cutting skills to produce their own Pentecost stained glass window pane.

R.E. - Role play events in the scripture

12/5/2023

The children read the scripture of the road to Emmaus as a class. they then acted out the events in the scripture in small groups. They answered some questions about how they thought the apostles would feel about meeting Jesus for the first time after his death on the cross. They also thought about the many lessons that we could learn from that story that we could use in our everyday lives.

Swimming returns

20/4/2023

The children made a big splash this week as they swam for the first time in Year 3. They excitedly entered school with their full swimming kits and bags of energy! They behaved well on the DLR and changed quickly into their swimming kits. They listened to the swim teachers and were happy but tired after the hour-long lesson. Well done Year 3! Swimming is an excellent way to exercise and going swimming with your class encourages rapid acquisition of the techniques and strategies as you work with your friends and highly skilled swim teachers. Swimming is also an invaluable life skill that the children can build upon as they grow.

Ancient Egypt – Art and Design Technology

30/3/2023

The children learned about how the Egyptians used hieroglyphics as a form of communication and writing. They practised writing their names in hieroglyphics on paper and later made a name plate using clay and carefully etched their name into the clay before it dried. After they allowed it to dry, they then painted a base colour on their name plate. Later they used a fine tipped paint brush to paint their name in colours that would have been popular in Ancient Egyptian times.

Ancient Egypt – Writing

27/3/2023

The children researched their chosen Ancient Egyptian God and wrote a paragraph of their findings. They were amazed at the number of Gods that the Ancient Egyptians worshipped and enjoyed learning about each of their different areas of responsibility in the world. They enjoyed learning about the famous story of the Goddess Isis’ tears causing the River Nile to flood.
