In Nursery this week we have been learning lots of information about Africa, it was so much fun. We explored African artefacts, fabrics and danced to African songs. We looked at power point and different photograph of Africa and learnt the names of the animals you would find on Safari. Look at all our fantastic learning. On Thursday morning Mrs Bracken tried to make some cookies. She tried and tried but she couldn’t make them, she poured flour all over herself and needed help urgently. Luckily a chef was nearby and she invited him to help her make cookies. He showed the ingredients and the kitchen utensils to the children, explained how to make the cookies and then made them with the children. The children loved eating them. They were delicious! On Wednesday we had our first reading morning. It was a great success and both children and parents thoroughly enjoyed themselves. This week in Nursery we followed children’s interests in buses. We have learnt the song ‘The wheels on the bus’ and made a fantastic red bus. We explored with ICT equipment such as megaphone, bells and lights. We also learnt what the bus driver’s job is and then pretended to be drivers and passengers while singing our own made up version of ‘The wheels on the bus’ song. We are proud to tell you that we have made the longest bus ever outside and that we were very well-behaved drivers and passengers. This week we have also prepared for Harvest. We explored different fruit and vegetables, looked at books about Harvest and picked the apples from the tree in the garden. We then washed the apples together and ate them, they were delicious! We have had another wonderful week in nursery exploring different activities indoors and outdoors. We talked about feelings and we have learnt new vocabulary to describe our emotions such as happy, joyful, sad, shocked, frustrated and angry. We drew pictures and played the game “Guess how I feel” where we guessed the emotion that someone had shown. We continued our learning about the season of autumn, we learnt autumn song and painted pictures using autumn colours. The children are very proud of their hard work and would love to share our classroom displays with you. This week we have been singing lots of number songs in nursery. We became number detectives and went on number walk to look inside and outside our school grounds looking for numbers in the environment. The children were really excited to spot numbers on cars, doors, the school gates, the pavement, road signs and school signs. What a fantastic week we have had in the Nursery. We settled the new children and showed them how fun and exciting Nursery can be. We have been reading the story Owl Babies by Martin Waddell and made owls, trees and leaves. We have also been learning about Autumn and we looked in our wild garden, for signs of Autumn and collected leaves and sticks. We had great fun investigating and exploring the leaves by throwing them in the air and stomping on them to hear the sounds they made. Look at our photos to see how much fun we had. On Thursday we had a surprise visit, a fire engine was parked in our school, John the Fire Fighter and the other fire officers showed us the fire engine and how to use the fire hose. We were great at targeting the cones with the water from the fire hose. This week we have had two special visitors come to our school. On Wednesday we had a visit from Zoo Lab and we really enjoyed learning facts about Corn snakes, African snails, cockroaches, geckos, tarantulas and scorpions. We were very brave as we stroked and touched the animals. |
