Year 2 have been drawing their own jungle scene inspired by Tiger in a Tropical Storm or Surprised by Henri Rousseau. His painting Tiger in a Tropical Storm (Surprised0 (1891) was the first of many jungle scenes for which Rousseau is famous. First, we researched the artist and learnt that Henri Rousseau was born in Laval, Mayenne, France in 1844. We discovered that although some of Rousseau’s most well-known paintings are jungle scenes, he never set foot in a jungle. Instead, he took his inspiration from the Jardin Des Plantes (botanical gardens) in Paris and from illustrations in books. We then responded the painting and looked at all the different colours and thought about how it made us feel. Then we experimented with how to make different colour greens. Finally, we created our own jungle scene. Comments are closed.
