London - Past & Present

26/11/2020

In our topic this week we have continued to learn about the Great Fire of London and life in 1666.
We used books and pictures to compare what life was like in 1666 with London today. The children decided that they would rather live in London today as we have electricity, running water and we get to travel in a car or by bus rather than horse so we can go to places that are far away.

Advent

26/11/2020

This week in Year 2 we have been learning about Advent.  We learnt that Advent is the period lasting the FOUR Sundays before Christmas preparing for the celebration of Jesus’ birth.
We learnt that the Advent Wreath is a symbol of Advent.
The four candles on the Advent Wreath represent the period of waiting during the four Sundays of Advent. Each Sunday, a new candle is lit.

The Candle of HOPE
The Candle of PEACE
The Candle of JOY
The Candle of LOVE

Religious Education

20/11/2020

During our Religion lessons this week we have been learning the story of The Annunciation.  We have retold the story using Godly play, we have looked at the painting ‘The Annunciation Fresco’ by Fra Angelico and drawn our own version and then wrote a retell after listening to the Scripture.
We responded to:
I wonder why God chose Mary to be the Mother of Jesus.
I wonder how Mary felt when she saw Gabriel.
I wonder how Mary felt about being the Mother of Jesus.

Similes

18/11/2020

In English we have been studying the poem ‘The Candle Flame’ by Pie Corbett.  He uses similes to describe how the flame moves.  We wrote our own simile poem about the Great Fire of London, thinking about how the fire moves.

Our book corner

16/11/2020

In Year 2 we love reading and like to read for pleasure.  We have created a new book corner to inspire the children to read.  The children have chosen their favourite book from our class library described why they like it.

Safety Seymour

13/11/2020

This week the children had a very special safety session all about carbon monoxide (CO), understanding what it is and how we can keep ourselves safe.  Safety Seymour (a superhero bear) and his safety assistant virtually visited our class, on a mission to rid the world of CO poisoning but he still needs our help!!

Maths - Manipulatives

10/11/2020

In our maths lessons we have been using different manipulatives to help us answer addition and subtraction questions. We have used tens frames, tens and ones counters and diennes. We looked at how we can exchange ten 1s for a ten.

Maths - Number lines

9/11/2020

In maths we used number lines and 100 squares to sequence numbers.

History - Tudor houses

6/11/2020

We used the internet and books to research the houses in the Great Fire of London.  We decided that they were Tudor.  We then drew our own Tudor house looking closely at the detail.  We then used water colours to paint it.
