The children worked independently to build and compare numbers and describe the comparisons using inequality signs. They also built their own representations and then identified and compared the amounts with a partner. They used the Maths vocabulary of more than, less than and equal to. For Maths and Science Week, Year One went outside to go on an insect hunt. Then we brought the insects back to the class to find out the features of an insect and labelled its parts. We kept the insects free from harm and placed them back in their habitat when we were finished.
The children drew flowers from life. They took their time to add detail such as the petals, stem and leaves. They then painted their flowers using watercolour. Our story this term is ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ by Julia Donaldson. We created story maps to help us retell the story. We then retold the story using interesting story openers and varied punctuation of exclamation marks. In Science we have been learning about fish. We have identified the features of a fish. We then used an Encyclopaedia to learn more about fish and located where they live on a world map. The children created equal groups of 2, 5 and 10. They were required to represent the groups using pictures, repeated addition and describe the groups using stem sentences. |
