The children took turns to perform in a role play activity as Neil Armstrong. The class had to ask ‘Neil Armstrong’ questions related to his trip to the moon and to end the lesson, the class drew a picture of the Apollo 11 spaceship.
We followed a set of instructions to recreate Van Gogh’s Starry Night using oil pastels. First, we drew around our hand to recreate the shape of a tree in the night. Then we looked closely at the painting and noticed that he had used lines to make his sky, wind and stars. We then used lines to recreate our own version. We looked again at the painting and discussed the houses. We talked about the shape and how big they were in comparison to the rest of the painting. Then the children learned the word ‘ vertical’ and drew green vertical lines to represent the grass and fields in Van Gogh’s picture. In today’s lesson, to see that Van Gogh had no white spaces. We decided as a class that we could use water paint to cover those areas. We washed over our art work with coloured water paint. |
