Illuminated by Christ, we radiate His love
The Wednesday Word: Sharing the Sunday Gospel at Home
At English Martyrs Catholic Primary School we believe that the journey of faith is a shared one. To support this, we are delighted to share The Wednesday Word with our families each week.
What is it?
The Wednesday Word is a special gift for your family. Every Wednesday, we provide a digital leaflet (or physical copy) that focuses on the upcoming Sunday’s Gospel.
It’s designed to be a "5-minute habit"—a small window of time in a busy week for you and your child to sit together, read a story from the Bible and talk about what it means for your lives today.
How it helps our children grow
While it is rooted in our Catholic faith, the themes in The Wednesday Word support the development of the "whole child" in several ways:
How to join in
There is no "right way" to do it! You might read it at the dinner table, before bed or on the school run. The goal is simply to spend a few minutes of quality time together, reflecting on how we can all be a bit more like Jesus in our daily lives.

How it helps our children grow
While it is rooted in our Catholic faith, the themes in The Wednesday Word support the development of the "whole child" in several ways:
- Growing in Love (Gospel Values): Each week focuses on a theme like kindness, forgiveness, or peace. It helps children see how these values can make their own lives and friendships happier.
- Being a Good Citizen (British Values): By chatting about the weekly theme, children learn to listen to others' ideas (Mutual Respect) and understand how to make good choices that help our community (The Rule of Law and Liberty).
- Thinking and Reflecting (SMSC): It gives children a quiet moment to be Spiritual, helps them think about right and wrong (Moral), encourages them to bond with you at home (Social), and reminds them they are part of a big, diverse global family (Cultural).
