The school celebrated the 80th Anniversary of VE day on Thursday 8th May. Pupils came to school dressed as evacuees, service personnel or in clothes from that era. Parents joined us for a picnic and were entertained by singing from all classes.
We were lucky to have a parent volunteer attend school to help pupils from Year 3 plant fruit and vegetable seeds.
Y5 attended St Katharine Cree for a visit and a stonemason demonstration and returned to school for a clay making lesson. This is linked to history in the local area.
Yesterday, pupils from year 5 presented the Easter Meditation. They were supported by the choir and pupils from years 1 - 6. Refreshments for parents followed where a total of £69 was raised which was added to our Catholic Children’s Society Lenten appeal.
Eco Warriors, with the help of a parent, sowed seeds. When sprouting these will be sown into the gardens where children can water and care for them, hopefully growing fruit and veg.
To celebrate World Book Day today, pupils were invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. Year 5 children also read stories to pupils in the lower classes and the kitchen prepared a ‘Harry Potter’ themed lunch followed by jelly.
In Year 6, the children celebrated World Book Day by creating dramatic scenes from our class book, Kensuke's Kingdom, in the form of a diorama.
A great number of skills were enhanced - measuring, cutting and using one's imagination to create the 3D scene. Year 5 learnt about columns from Ancient Greece - they were a set a task to make columns from paper!
We then measured how many atlases could be placed on top. The winner held 28! |
