This week, Year 6 dressed as Victorian children, some poor and some rich. This gave them an insight into how tough life must have been back then. Victorian children were seen but not heard and many were orphaned or neglected by their parents.
They learnt how life in Victorian times was nothing like childhood in today’s world. They had to work public jobs for their families to put food on the table. Some would have to earn money by selling matches or flowers. Toys were nothing more than homemade dolls or wooden blocks which they could only play with if they had finished their 'chores'. Children listened intently to Peter Jones from CAFOD who showed them how to spread kindness this season with meaningful gifts.
Teachers were blown aware by the spiritual responses the children gave when asked what was the 'greatest gift they had received'? They hope they will be able to raise enough funds this Christmas, to give a life-changing gift to those in need. The children thoroughly enjoyed their Christmas lunch.
Everyone looked so merry and festive in their Christmas jumpers. |
