Religious Education - Works of Mercy
Hurtado Jesuit Centre and CAFOD
The Hurtado Jesuit Centre is supported by our students. During the Harvest Festival each year students donate food. The Harvest food donations will be shared between Hurtado the Jesuit Refugee Centre and Providence Row the Homeless Shelter.
The Centre is the home to the Jesuit Refugee Service, which works with destitute refugees. A community of young Jesuits from all over the world live at the Centre, studying for the priesthood and working in local parishes.
Pupils made a donation to wear their own clothes on the last day of half term, this money is donated CAFOD Catholic Agency for Overseas Development.

The Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi
1st September – 4th October (the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi) is the season of creation when we celebrate the Awe and Wonder of our world.
Each student is invited to share the Christian story through classroom lessons, daily prayer, reflective experiences, celebrations of liturgy and participation in action for social justice.
Our students may choose to prepare for First Eucharist and Confirmation, which are the external signs of a commitment to a Christian life.
Throughout the school year our students participate in celebrations of the main events of the life of Christ – Lent, Easter and Christmas – through whole school Masses and classroom liturgies.
At English Martyrs we maintain the commitment of Social Justice to work for the most marginalised people in our community. We encourage students to participate in a broad range of social justice programs, with a particular focus on mercy projects, both locally and abroad.
