Illuminated by Christ, we radiate His love

Catholic Life and Mission

In English Martyrs we believe that Christ is at the heart of our school where we foster a sense of community where all are welcomed and valued no matter what their religion, culture, disability or gender.

Our Mission to follow in the footsteps of Jesus as we believe the Gospel values are central in all we do. We believe that parents are the first educators of their children and we provide them with guidance and support to help their children’s spiritual and moral growth.

We work closely with our parish of English Martyrs and neighbouring parish of St Patrick’s,  Fr Alex and Fr Andrew are invited to support the RE curriculum and our celebration of the Church year.
Fr Ray from De Mazenod House at English Martyrs works closely with our ‘Faith Friends’ pupils who help lead prayer and worship in school.

We share our faith with parents through Advent, Christmas, Easter productions and other special assemblies to mark key celebrations in the Church liturgical year.

Our children and families are generous in their response to reaching out to help those less fortunate in our local and worldwide communities. We have fundraising events for a number of charities that include; CAFOD, Catholic Association For Overseas Development, Providence Row and The Passage who work with the homeless, Jesuit Refugee Centre Wapping and Catholic Children’s Society.
The Religious Education programme includes Diocesan plans and the scheme - The Way, the Truth & the Life. All lessons aim to cover the 4 areas of the Curriculum Directory which are:
  • Revelation
  • Church
  • Celebration
  • Life in Christ
The time allocated to the teaching of Religious Education is 10 percent of the total curriculum time. Staff are supported by training opportunities provided by our school advisor from the Diocese of Westminster to develop their knowledge and understanding of Religious Education. Spirituality is developed through prayer, collective worship and celebration of Mass.

The Wednesday Word is our way of Sharing Sunday’s Gospel with parents and families of our pupils.

Parents are invited to attend all celebrations and services and share in the various religious experiences provided for children and families by the school.

Two weeks of the year are dedicated to the teaching of Judaism and Islam and other faiths are taught at appropriate festival occasions. Our aim within this context is that all members of the school community show respect for each other and our wider communities.
