Illuminated by Christ, we radiate His love
Careers Education
At English Martyrs, our careers education flows directly from our mission statement: “Illuminated by Christ, we radiate His love.” It helps children recognise that their gifts and future vocations are ways of serving others, living out the Gospel in their everyday lives and contributing to the common good.
Through learning about different jobs, roles and responsibilities, pupils see how people use their talents to help society, care for creation and support those in need, reflecting Christ’s love in practical ways. They begin to understand that whatever path they follow in the future, they are called to use their skills generously, with compassion and integrity.
Our careers education also supports and promotes British Values. Children learn about mutual respect by valuing a wide range of roles and professions, democracy by exploring how different jobs contribute to our society and public life, the rule of law through understanding workplace responsibilities, and individual liberty by recognising their own rights, choices and aspirations. They see how people of different backgrounds, beliefs and abilities work together, which reinforces tolerance and respect for others and prepares them to play a positive, active part in modern Britain.
Careers Week
Careers Week at English Martyrs is a special themed week where children explore the world of work and hear directly from adults about different jobs, careers and vocations. It gives pupils real-life examples of how learning in school connects to future opportunities and helps them imagine the many possibilities their futures can hold.
We do Careers Week to inspire our children, raise their aspirations and help them “dream big” by meeting a wide range of role models from our own community. By inviting parents, carers and family friends to talk about their work and experiences, we show pupils that every job is valuable, that their gifts can be used to serve others and that today’s efforts in the classroom open doors for tomorrow. Careers Week this year is from Monday 18th May to Friday 22nd May.
