Information for Parents and Carers
This summary explains how we assess your child's learning and progress, and how we share that information with you.
Why We Assess
Assessment helps us to:
How We Assess Every Day
Teachers assess children's learning continuously through:
Formal Assessments During the Year
Termly tests (All years)
Children complete standardised tests in reading and mathematics each term. These help us measure progress and identify any children who need extra support or challenge.
Reception – Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP)
At the end of Reception, teachers complete a profile for each child based on observations throughout the year. You will receive a summary at the end of the year.
Year 1 – Phonics Screening Check (June)
All Year 1 children complete a short phonics check to make sure they can read and sound out words confidently. If your child does not meet the expected standard, they will retake the check in Year 2.
Year 4 – Multiplication Tables Check (June)
Year 4 children complete an online check of their times tables knowledge (up to 12 × 12). Results help us support multiplication and division teaching across Key Stage 2.
Year 6 – Key Stage 2 National Tests (May)
Year 6 children sit national tests (SATs) in reading, grammar/punctuation/spelling and mathematics. Teachers also assess writing. Results are shared with you in the end‑of‑year report.
Children with Special Educational Needs or Additional Support
If your child has special educational needs (SEND) or receives additional support (for example Pupil Premium funding), we use assessment information to:
How We Share Information with You
Parents' consultation meetings (Autumn and Spring terms)
We meet with you to discuss your child's progress, strengths and next steps.
End‑of‑year report (Summer term)
You receive a written report summarising your child's attainment, progress and effort across all subjects, including statutory assessment outcomes where applicable.
Additional meetings
If your child is receiving extra support or there are concerns about progress, we will arrange additional meetings to discuss next steps and how you can help at home.
Pupil feedback
Children receive regular feedback in lessons so they understand what they have done well and how to improve. We encourage children to be active learners who understand their own progress.
